Consumer Laws

Consumer laws deal with consumer Issues. The consumer protection act was a watershed in that it set up new modes of dispute resolution pertaining to consumer complaints by setting up Consumer disputes redressal forums in virtually all districts in the country.

The decision making process in these forums was much faster as compared to the Civil Courts. The law is unique in that it dispenses with the cumbersome process of recording detailed evidence, moreover no court fee is required to be appended. Parties can represent themselves and are not obliged to engage an advocate. The law pertains only to non commercial transaction, but its sphere has been widening gradually to encompass disputes relating to diverse fields such as real estate disputes, Public provident funds, borrowing by commission agents, medical negligence etc.
